Yesterday Robbie and I got ready to bug bomb the apartment. We woke up late and spent all morning bagging things that we didn't want bombed...like kitchen stuff and some clothes and toilet paper and what not. For the most part, we went overboard. I secured what I didn't want to clean later...but Robbie got a bit paranoid and secured almost everything he used and liked a lot. His biggest concern was his books. "What!? I don't want them to get pesticides on them!" "Hon, you don't understand! What kills fleas won't harm us as much as you think it will!" "Look, you better just let me do it because if I don't cover them up, I won't ever touch them again." It's was funny. He's allowed to protect himself as much as he cares to from harmful chemicals. But I just don't think he understood how tame the bomb was...it even said on the box that you should bomb your small pet's (like a hamster or gerbil's) bedding but that you don't need to change it out afterwards. If it isn't going to harm a hamster to live in bombed bedding...it isn't going to hurt us to accidentally touch a book that might have some residue on it and then possible touch something that might possibly touch our mouth. lol. I told him all of this but he still covered the bookshelf in plastic bags. *shrug* I thought it was kinda funny.
ANYways after all of that was done, we set off the bomb and stopped at the visitors center to ask where to go for a nice picnic....she suggested Wayah's Bald which was just a very beautiful place at the top of a very beautiful mountain. We had packed up a picnic FEAST with cheese and crackers and tuna sandwiches and pesto pasta and ginger snaps and all kinds of stuff. We headed off and ended up on a VERY curvy, very THIN, gravel road up the mountain. It was scary and fun. We met up with other cars a few times, but managed to pull over enough to let them go by...however I'm sure there were many places on the road that there was NOT enough room for two cars to pass each other. Plus it was so dry and steep at times that we were warned of the car slipping...so we were being incredibly careful and slow. It took forever to get there but once we did...it was worth it. We walked up to an old lookout, parked our fleece blanket under a tree and ate and sat and snuggled and took pictures and walked a little of the AT that went through the site and had a great day. It was very cold...so by the end of the day we were both wrapped up with our down comforter that just happened to be in the car because we didn't want it to get bombed. Then when we finally mustered up the courage to brave the cold and pack up...we started to make our way back down the scary, long, windy road. We stopped about halfway down at a little site with an old old house and shed and outhouse that had been locked up. I didn't read about it but there were pictures telling all about what happened there. We walked around for a bit. It was eerie seeing as how we didn't hear anything but the trees, there was nobody around, the sun was just starting to set, it was cold and windy, and we were looking at the old, lonely, creepy buildings out in the middle of nowhere. It looked like a great place to film a scary movie. As we walked closer we kept hearing this weird creaky crying sound...we thought it was some sort of animal or something up in the trees. We started to walk towards it...and made our way into the woods a little down the path that led to the old outhouse. We didn't find anything so we walked back...and as we did the sound got louder and louder. I looked up...and there were these two trees that had grown so close together...that the limb of one was rubbing against and sawing into the trunk of the other...and it made this high pitched creaky sound. It looked really cool.
We made it down the mountain safely and made it home. We had to air out the apartment for a while so we went back and opened windows and turned on fans and what not and went and played video games at a game place called Brainstorm that's just down the road from our apartment. Then we came home and had dinner and watched The Princess Bride and went to bed.
It was a good day.
It was the kind of day...that is filled with things that I want every day. Cool weather...being outside...nice views...quiet all around us...no worries...no bills...no work...no chores...no money...simple food...fun. It was perfect.
We're gonna bomb the house again next week!
